In bikejöring, your dog runs ahead of your bike and helps pull along the trail. You pedal and steer while your dog responds to direction and pace cues. It is a fast, close partnership, so practise commands and braking at low speed before heading onto more demanding routes. Choose suitable trails and keep an eye on temperature, surface and your dog’s condition.

Reliable gear matters when you are moving at speed. A pulling harness should fit your dog’s shape and allow a free stride. Use an elastic towline made for the sport and a secure bike antenna to guide the line away from the front wheel. Check connections, brakes and line length before you set off. A regular leash or collar does not offer the same control or comfort under sustained pull.
